A Plex alternative for music, without the server
Plex reads films, series, photos and music from your own disks, for several users, with no storage limit. It needs a machine running at home.
Stream My Music does the music only, and hosts the files. This page compares the two on that point.
Free account: 50 MB of storage.

What each one costs you
Plex uses storage you already own, with no limit. In exchange the machine has to stay on, connected and maintained. Playback depends on it and on your home connection.
Stream My Music is limited to 2 GB and requires a subscription beyond 50 MB. Nothing runs at your home, and playback does not depend on anything there.
The two can be used together: Plex for films, and a hosted account for the music played every day.
Moving your music across
Files served by Plex are already tagged and organised. Select the folders you play, drag them onto the website, and the tags come across as they are.
The limit to check first is 2 GB. Beyond that, this is not the right tool.
